CYRANO - The World's Most Beautiful Play?

220px-Gravure-cyrano2This summer dive into the world of love and comedy of 1640 Paris with Marin Summer Theater's produciton of CYRANO DE BERGERAC. Described by author Edmund Rostand as a "Heroic Comedy" the play is full of poetry, laughter, and heartbreak. Telling the story of three men that vie for the love of the beautful and kind Roxanne, CYRANO DE BERGERAC has been hailed as one of the world's most beautiful plays, inspiring countless stage, movie, opera and television productions and adaptions ever since its first production in 1898.

CYRANO is more than a love story.  It is a poem in five acts (the entire play is written in verse), a journey into the human soul, and a heartbreaking exploration into what it means to be 'beautiful'.  With a cast of up to 30 actors, CYRANO has dashing musketeers, brave and brilliant women, sword fights, court intrigue, bakers, lovers, adulterers, monks, nuns, drunkards and gentlemen.  The completeness and meticulous research of the era of Louis the XIII, down to the names of the members of the Académie Française and dames précieuses brings alive the glory of France entering its golden age.

CYRANO also has Cyrano.  Inspired by a real man, Cyrano de Bergerac is one of the most complex and admired characters in western drama. His quick wit and unrelenting pursuit of the ideals of love and honor make him a hero and an inspiration.  His pride and his detest of medocity and insincerity make him many enemies and impossible to live with.

CYRANO DE BERGERAC is a play that has changed lives and is not to be missed.  CYRANO will be directed by Pat Nims and will be be presented at San Marin High School on June 26-29 and July 3, 5, 6.
