One of the world's greatest plays, and possibly the most loved. Set in Paris 1640 as France is approaching the zenith of its power. This is the story of the willful solider, poet, philosopher and expert swordsman named Cyrano who loves the fair Roxane, but assumes she will refuse him because of his huge nose. Instead he writes love letters for the slow-witted, but handsome Christian can win Roxane's hand. Roxane falls deeply in love with Christian, not knowing the letters were written by Cyrano. All against a backdrop of musketters, poets, cadets, lords, ladies and politics of Louis XIII.
This summer dive into the world of love and comedy of 1640 Paris with Marin Summer Theater's produciton of CYRANO DE BERGERAC. Described by author Edmund Rostand as a "Heroic Comedy" the play is full of poetry, laughter, and heartbreak. Telling the story of three men that vie for the love of the beautful and kind Roxanne, CYRANO DE BERGERAC has been hailed as one of the world's most beautiful plays, inspiring countless stage, movie, opera and television productions and adaptions ever since its first production in 1898.
MST is very excited to announce that award-winning Fight Director Michael Cawelti has signed on as the Stage Combat / Fight Director for MST's production of Cyrano de Bergerac!
Cyrano is a huge play. Five acts, five different locations over 15 years. Over fourty named parts. Seven Principals, seventeen featured roles and twenty ensemble parts. Many parts will be doubled. Ensemble actors that play flute, recorder, strings, lute / guitar are needed. There is singing. There is stage combat. Cyrano, Valvert, the Guardsman and the Muskekteer must fence and will be taught if needed. The entire play is in verse. This is going to be fun!
