HEATHERS, THE MUSICAL, the darkly delicious musical based on the 1980’s cult movie, will be presented by Marin Summer Theater July 20 through July 30 at The Novato Theater Company Playhouse in Novato. Because of adult situations and language, HEATHERS is not recommended for young people under the age of 16.
HEATHERS THE MUSICAL is the story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls for the dangerously sexy new kid J.D.. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized butt, but J.D. has another plan for that bullet.
Brought to you by the award-winning creative team of Kevin Murphy, Laurence O’Keefe and Andy Fickman, HEATHERS THE MUSICAL, is a hilarious, heartfelt and homicidal new show based on the greatest teen comedy of all time. With its moving love story, laugh-out-loud comedy and unflinching look at the joys and anguish of high school, HEATHERS was a hit off-Broadway in 2014.
Directed by Patrick Nims, with choreography by Melinda Murray, and musical direction by Jennifer Huang, the HEATHERS creative team also includes set design by Sofia Cassidy, costume, hair and make-up design by Gillian Eichenberger, lighting design by Harrison Moye, and sound design by Simon Eves. This production is co-produced by Novato Theater Company.
Featured in the cast are Maya Michal Sherer as Veronica Sawyer, Jesse Northen as J.D., Angel Wilensky as Heather Chandler, Lily Hahn as Heather Duke, and McCall Brinskele as Heather McNamara. Also featured are Elizabeth Faber as Martha, Andrew Pryor-Ramirez as Kurt Kelly, Marco A. Simental as Ram Sweeney, and Ambrosia Lobo as Ms. Fleming.
“The musical version of HEATHERS keeps all of our favorite situations and quotes from the movie, but at the same time expands on our understanding of JD, Heather Chandler, Martha and the other characters”, says Director Patrick Nims. “While funny, outrageous and risky, it is the also the most honest and realistic view of high school life in musical theater.”
