IN THE HEIGHTS in Novato!

ITH-PR-1

Marin Summer Theater completes its 2015 season with the Tony Award Winning musical IN THE HEIGHTS on July 23*, 24, 25, 26, 30* & 31, Aug 1, 2 (*discount Thursdays) at San Marin High School in Novato. With a gripping story and incredible music and dance, IN THE HEIGHTS is a groundbreaking 21st century musical and the next chapter in the classic American story.

ITH-PR-2Conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda (who wrote the music and lyrics), IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. IN THE HEIGHTS was nominated for 13 Tony awards in 2008, winning Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Choreography.

ITH-PR-6The story, written by Quiara Alegría Hudes, focuses on the people that live in, and want to get out of the neighborhood, including Nina who has just returned to her Washington Heights neighborhood from her freshman year at Stanford, and her parents struggling to keep their small business alive. Usnavi operates a tiny corner bodega, while his love interest, Vanessa, only dreams of finding a studio apartment in the coveted West Village. When the winning lottery ticket, a power outage, and romantic tension hit the neighborhood on a Fourth of July weekend, long-time friends and neighbors make discoveries about each other, about themselves, and about the place they all call home.

ITH-PR-5IN THE HEIGHTS is directed by Pat Nims with choreography by Kate Kenyon and musical direction by Samantha Maaslehbrown. The live 10-piece orchestra is conducted by Jun Kim. The cast of 25 MST company members includes Fernando Siu, Hannah Bloom, Melanie Macri, Jeffery Hyche, Elliott Hanson and Jessika Zijdemans.

Now in its seventh season, Marin Summer Theater has received nineteen BroadwayWorld SF Awards and twelve National Youth in Arts awards. Ticket prices start at $7.50 for Thursday performances and $15 for other performances.
