GYPSY is the story of the ultimate, aggressive stage mother and her daughters.  The rhinestone splendor of vaudeville's waning days are brought to life in this musical based on the life of burlesque queen Gypsy Rose Lee.  To the accompaniment of Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim's zesty songs, June and Louise are dragged from one second-rate theatre to another and through a myriad of dingy hotels as their scheming mother pursues a dream of her daughters' headlining the famed Orpheum Circuit. Featuring unforgettable songs such as "Let Me Entertain You," "Some People" and "Everything's Coming Up Roses" GYPSY is one of the greatest musicals of the golden age.

Gypsy has been referred to as the greatest American musical by numerous critics and writers, among them Ben Brantley ("what may be the greatest of all American musicals...") and Frank Rich.  Rich wrote that " Gypsy is nothing if not Broadway's own brassy, unlikely answer to 'King Lear.'"
